House founded in 1775 by Pierre-Joseph Roussel, then taken over by his widow Roussel.
The company was then taken over by his son-in-law Alexis-Louis Bouton. The company had acquired the title of "Supplier to His Highness the Duke of Bordeaux".
It was in turn his son-in-law Marie-Louis-Antoine Guérin who succeeded him, the chocolate factory taking the name of Guérin-Boutron. Maurice Guérin-Boutron took over management of the successful business in the early 1900s.
From 1922, the company was listed on the stock exchange. In 1934, it was transformed into the Société Nouvelle Chocolat Guérin-Boutron, whose head office was at 23 rue du Maroc in Paris.
The company was bought by Félix Potin in 1942.
