Special Issue Étoile Palace Music-Hall
Special Issue Étoile Palace music-hall, Bearer Bond Series 1907 N°526-93, Paris 30 April 1907, 2 shows/month 50% discount, Avenue Wagram
The Étoile Palace, a family music-hall located at 39 Avenue Wagram in Paris (8th arrondissement), near the Arc de Triomphe, was part of the constellation of popular entertainment venues that formed the heart of Belle Époque Parisian nightlife. This "Bearer Bond" of the Special Issue, Series 1907 (N° Tel. 526-93), is an absolutely unique document in its genre: beneath the appearance of a classic financial bond with columns of coupons, directors' signatures and a general manager, it is in reality a subscription certificate entitling its bearer to attend two shows per month at the Étoile Palace with a special 50% discount on ticket prices, for a maximum of three persons. The monthly coupons from June 1907 to April 1908 are still visible, some bearing the "PAYE" stamp. Signed by the General Manager (Coombe), the Chief Cashier and an Administrator. Printed by Chardin & Gabriel, Paris. This document is an extraordinary curiosity at the crossroads of scripophily and the history of Parisian entertainment.
