Famous grocery store brand created by Félix Potin in 1844. Félix Potin worked as a grocery clerk in Paris and set up on his own at 28 rue Neuve-Coquenard.

Félix Potin owns a classic but well-located grocery store, in a shopping street, not far from the slaughterhouses of Montmartre. Above all, he has an innovative practice of the grocer's trade. Instead of the sometimes dishonest habits of the grocers of the time, he preferred respect for the customer. Has high margins on products sold in small numbers, he prefers to sell a lot at a low price. It displays the prices, which are fixed, and the sale is made in cash. He intends to sell “at the right weight, at the right price”, following the example of his friend and former boss Bonnerot, who ran a retail grocery store at 6, rue du Rocher in Paris. He buys it back following the resale of his first grocery store. It then moves to the major Parisian boulevards such as Sébastopol or Malsherbes. A pioneer, it offers home delivery. He then launched into production by opening a factory in La Villette for the processing of food products (sugar, chocolate, coffee, etc.). He even buys agricultural land and vineyards in Tunisia.

On his death in 1871, his widow and sons took over the business and continued to develop the business. The company which goes public after the war has invested in agro-food factories. In particular, she bought the Chocolats Guérin-Boutron in 1942.

The brand was bought in 1984 by a Moroccan businessman Daniel Amar. Then the brand disappeared in 1995 when Félix Potin still had more than 1,000 employees and nearly 400 stores, partly taken over by the Promodès and Franprix brands.
