Superb Share Certificate to Bearer of the Industrial Bank of Japan, Limited (日本興業銀行 — Nippon Kogyo Ginko), a Japanese public bank founded by Law No. LXX of 1900 and registered with the local Tokyo court on 31 March 1902 (Meiji 35). Document covering 20 shares of 50 yen each, i.e. 1,000 yen in total. Under Law No. 11 of 1906, the authorized capital was raised to 17,500,000 yen divided into 350,000 shares. Issued on 1 December 1906 and signed in person by J. Soyeda, the bank's first President (1902-1913). Serial numbers 263901-263920. A fully bilingual English/Japanese document, magnificently engraved: a central typographic English cartouche with neo-Renaissance interlacing, elegant kanji calligraphy on the right, red hanko seals of the officials, a "TEN SHILLINGS 1907" stamp attesting to payment of a British stamp duty. On the back, complete extracts of the bank's Law and By-Laws (7 detailed chapters), plus the "Industrial Bank of Japan" coupon stub still partly attached (coupons no. 77 to 91 visible). An exceptional document for Japanese banking scripophily, Meiji-era financial history, or an antique bilingual collection. Nippon Kogyo Ginko financed Japan's accelerated industrialization, the buyout of railway companies' debts, and colonial expansion in East Asia.
