of the town of Dole, department of the Jura, certifies that Mr Pierre Antoine Thervay, Captain of the 7th Cavalry Regiment, retired to this town since Year 4 following wounds he received in war, taken prisoner on the battlefield with his horse killed under him, he himself having been left for dead on the battlefield; as attested by the certificates issued to him and which he has presented to us, has since his return to this commune been Commander of the National Guard of this town and has distinguished himself by his devotion to the maintenance of public order, his activity, his dedication and his zeal in upholding the laws and protecting his fellow citizens. Given at the town hall under seal in Dole on 29 Prairial Year 12 (18 June 1804).
