Share capital of 300,000 francs divided into 300 shares, each share itself divided into ten coupons of one hundred francs — an innovative financial arrangement to democratize access to industrial capital. Issued a few weeks before the February 1848 Revolution that overthrew Louis-Philippe and proclaimed the Second Republic, this piece bears witness to the technical and financial effervescence of the end of the July Monarchy, when French maritime industrialization sought to catch up with the British.
