The object of the Company was to promote the progress of the arts in Bordeaux and to spread the taste for it through public exhibitions of painting, architecture, sculpture, drawing and engraving.
It organized exhibitions in its salons, located on the Terrasse du Jardin Public.
The Company bought paintings and shared them by lot among its members carrying nominal and annual shares of 25F.
The Society was established in 1882 with the assistance of Monsignor the Archbishop, the Prefect of the Gironde and the Mayor of Bordeaux.
The members of the board of directors were: M. Bonnet (Adrien), M. Sourget (Adr.), MM. Guestier (D.) and R. de Gernon, the treasurer M; Cuginaud (N.-J.), the secretary M. Brown (F.-H.).
