Société Anonyme de l'Hôtel-Kursaal de la Maloja
Share of 500F - La Maloja (Haute-Engadine), Stampa (Canton des Grisons) 1882
Share of 500 francs to bearer issued in La Maloja, Stampa (Canton des Grisons) 1882
Palace hotel not far from the chic resort of Saint-Moritz in La Maloja (Upper Engadine), in the canton of Grisons in Switzerland, at the top of the Maloja pass, built by Camille Maximilien Frédéric, count of Renesse (1836-1904).
The hotel opened in 1864 and was later renamed "Maloja Palace". The share presents in the background a view of the hotel, identifiable by its dome and its air of barracks.
The palace, very well equipped for the time (elevators, ancestor of air conditioning, golf, tennis ...) unfortunately failed a few months later, a cholera epidemic having reached neighboring Italy.
The hotel reopened later, with its dome removed. After serving as a mid-range hotel, an Italian entrepreneur Amedeo Clavarino bought the Maloja Palace in 2006 and, after extensive renovations to transform it back into a luxury hotel, reopened in 2009.
Document signed by Camille Frédéric.
