This exceptional document is a Bond of £100 (N°A 2296, Series A) of the Government Loan of the Republic of Bolivia, totalling £1,700,000 nominal at 6% annual interest. Authorised by the Law of the Bolivian National Constituent Assembly of 24 August 1871, it was issued on 7 February 1872 in London, with Lamb, Wanklyn and Company as agents. The capital is divided into Series A: 8,500 bonds of £100 (N°1 to 8,500), total £850,000; and Series B: 1,700 bonds of £500 (N°8,501 to 10,200), total £850,000. This bond N°A 2296 belongs to Series A. It is signed by two major historical figures: Narciso Campero, Minister Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Envoy of Bolivia, who would become President of the Republic of Bolivia from 1880 to 1884, and George Earl Church (1835–1910), an American engineer who served as Bolivia's Special Agent in London and builder of the Madeira-Mamoré Railway in the Amazon rainforest. The bond is accompanied by a Trust Fund Certificate of 5 June 1880, signed by Trustees John Horatio Lloyd and Alfred James Lambert, issued pursuant to judgments of the Court of Appeal of 20 June 1879 (Action "Wilson v. Church and others") and the House of Lords of 23 March 1880 (Action "National Bolivian Navigation Company and others v. Wilson and others"). This certificate bears the stamp of the "Church, National Bolivian Navigation & Colonisation & Co." A premier piece of Bolivian historical scripophily, with dual judicial and diplomatic provenance.
