The bank founded by François Garnier in the 19th century was located rue Pasteur then moved to 7, Place du Châtelet.

François Garnier died in 1894 and his son Francisque took over the management. He participated in the economic development of the city until his death in 1930, just after selling a stake in his bank to the Union des Mines.

In 1947, Banque Garnier was taken over by Banque Nationale pour le Commerce et l'Industrie (BNCI), which later became BNP and then BNP Paribas.
