Bolivia Railway Company
First Mortgage 5% Bond £20 N°A 31853, Bolivia Railway Company, 1 January 1907. Guaranteed by Bolivia + Antofagasta Railway. Official translation Ch. Rosselet, Canton of Geneva, 27 Dec. 1909. American Bank Note Co.
The Bolivia Railway Company (La Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de Bolivie) is a railway company operating strategic lines across the Bolivian Altiplano. This First Mortgage Five Per Cent Bond N°A 31853 of £20 is part of a first mortgage issue of £3,750,000 (with the option to issue a further £2,000,000 at no more than 6%), secured by the First Mortgage of 26 October 1907 granted to the Central Trust Company of New York as trustee. The bond bears 5% annual interest, payable semi-annually on 1 January and 1 July, with exchange rates fixed at: $97.20 / D.R.M. 409 / Fcs. 503.60 / Florins 241.80. The guarantee is exceptionally twofold: the Supreme Government of Bolivia unconditionally guarantees the payment of interest (1 January 1907), and the Antofagasta (Chile) and Bolivia Railway Company — the great railway company linking the Atacama desert to the Pacific — provides its counter-guarantee (New York, 1 January 1909). The full conditions are in English (recto, American Bank Note Company, New York) and French. The official French translation is certified by Ch. Rosselet, Official Translator of the State of Geneva (Switzerland), at Geneva on 27 December 1909, with the stamp "Canton de Genève - Traducteur Officiel". A register of nominative inscriptions shows several transfers of the bond between 1920 and 1940
