In 1893, Paul Manthès, French civil engineer of the Mines and administrator of the silver and copper mines of Djebel Téliouine, the Malaysian Tin Company (S.A. des Etains de Malaisie), was founded. Its purpose is the exploitation of tin mines or any other mines in the peninsula of Malacca. It also aims to participate in all agricultural and industrial operations.

The head office is established in Paris, 29, rue de Londres.

Mr. Paul Manthès contributes to the company the benefit of the lease agreements currently being negotiated with the Liang Tin Lands Company (of which it is becoming a subsidiary), and the benefit of the studies and steps taken by him with a view to obtaining a freehold concession in the peninsula of Malacca.

As early as 1903, mention was made of the impending exhaustion of the tin mines on the peninsula of Malacca. However, if it is true that the mines exploited for many years in Perak and Selangas show capital losses, there are many very rich tin deposits in other parts of the Peninsula, and in particular in Pahang. This is where the Malaysian Tin Company has recently been operating the Tou-Ankai mine, which it acquired in full ownership from Liang Tou Lands Ltd.

Constituted, more or less, with the same capital as the Société des Étains de Kinta (800,000 fr.), the company counts among its founders the main creator of the aforementioned company.

In 1909, the company's headquarters moved to 62 rue Saint-Lazare. A new Société Anonyme des Etains de Malaisie was founded in 1924 with a capital of 4 million francs, increased to 8 million francs in 1927 by the creation of 40,000 new shares.
