Ateliers d'Art André Mailfert S.A.
Certificate of 50 Shares of 100F - Orléans, Hôtel de François 1er, 1931
Certificate of 50 Shares of 100 francs to bearer issued in Orléans, Hôtel de François 1er, in 1931.
Wooden furniture manufacturer.
A man of letters, painter and cabinetmaker, André Mailfert made copies of furniture.
He opened the Ateliers d'Art in 1904 rue Notre-Dame-de-Recouvrance in the hotel called "François 1er". 200 workers work on his creations exported all over the world.
The crisis of 1929 inspires Mailfert with the biggest hoax in the history of the antiques market: he invents the character of Jean-François Hardy from the Ecole de la Loire, which will earn him orders for copies of furniture from this famous non-existent cabinetmaker...
But this imposture is not enough to save the Workshops from bankruptcy. The latter were bought in 1935 by the Amos family, which continued the activity.
