The work of the railway line from Orleans to Chalons (renamed Châlons-sur-Marne, then Châlons-en-Champagne in the Marne) were made in 1870 by Gustave de Bussierre, Armand Donon and Ludovic Tenré.

The line supplied supplies from Nantes to eastern France, in a context of conflict with Germany as early as 1870. Passenger traffic ceased in 1938.

Decorated coat of arms of the cities of Orleans, Chalons but also cities crossed by the line: Sens, Montargis, Troyes and Argis-sur-Aube.
