The Société Anonyme pour l'Éclairage au Gaz de la Ville de Lorgues, in the Var (Provence), established by deeds passed before Maître Boyer, notary in Lorgues, on 2 October, 13 October and 3 November 1887, was one of the many small local companies responsible for installing public gas lighting in provincial towns at the end of the 19th century. Share capital of fifty thousand francs divided into 100 shares of 500 francs, with an interest guarantee of 4.5% by the Commune.

This fully paid-up Bearer Share of 500 Francs, numbered 21, is dated 13 November 1887 in Lorgues. Salmon-pink Belle Époque border, decorative border with diamond motifs and corner ornaments, central vignette stamped "Société du Gaz de la Ville de Lorgues". Several original signatures: the Chairman of the Board of Directors, the directors (Cotal, Gnu, Mouy, Lacas, Du Loval, Aby) and "For the Founders / the Managing Director" Henri Mardy. Very fair condition. A rare piece of Provençal regional scripophily and the history of gas lighting in 19th-century France.
