Extract from the statutes on the back of the title.

The Approuague is a river in eastern Guyana.

In 1856, large landowners and traders joined forces to create the Compagnie Anonyme Aurifère et Agricole de Approuague.

This company has a project, as its name suggests, to invest in parallel in gold and field crops: it obtains the concession of 200,000 hectares of land and acquires the sugar plantation in Jamaica.

In 1862, the company employed 302 African, Chinese and Indian workers brought from Pondicherry, so many died of diseases (poor working conditions, climate, lack of appropriate care ...).

The company went bankrupt in 1867.
