Charles Pierre Eugène Laffitte (1803-1875), banker, rider and French politician, was one of the promoters of the construction of the Paris-Rouen railway between 1841 and 1843.
He also participated in the creation of the water supply network of the town of Maisons-Laffitte from 1859 where he was a municipal councilor. Charles Laffite was the nephew of Jacques Laffitte who gave his name to the city.
Parisian personality, Charles Laffitte, great lover of horse racing, is one of the founding members of the Jockey Club in 1834, it is "Société d'Encouragement pour l'Amélioration de la Race chevaline" (Management Company for the improvement of the horse race) (future France Galop).
His house, bank Charles Laffitte, Blount & Cie, founded in 1834, went bankrupt in 1848. The new institution he founded in 1851, Charles Laffitte & Co. Ltd., had too little capital to play a significant role in the financial landscape.
