Pathé Marconi Music and Electrical Industries.

Company founded by EMI in 1936, which has its origins in the merger of the Compagnie Française du Gramophone founded in 1899 (subsidiary of the English Gramophone Company) with the Compagnie Générale des Machines Parlantes Pathé Frères.

The name Pathé-Marconi was chosen in honor of Émile Pathé (1860-1937),French leader of the phonographic record and the talking machine, and of Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937), physicist, inventor and Italian businessman considered as one of the inventors of wireless radio and telegraphy.

Émile Pathé was honorary chairman of the board of directors until his death in 1937, four months after the creation of the company. Marconi survived him three months and died in July. Neither Émile Pathé nor Guglielmo Marconi ever had any financial interest in the Pathé-Marconi company. It will become one of the most important European firms in the phonographic industry after the Second World War.
