Jules Mirès is a businessman from Bordeaux. Associated with another Bordeaux named Millaud, he invested from 1836 in the press (L'Audience, Le Journal des Chemins de fer...).

He then separates from Millaud and founds Les Hauts Fourneaux de Saint-Louis and becomes a concessionaire for gas in Marseille where he creates the Napoleon port.

He also formed a company with a Spanish partner, Don José de Salamanca, for the construction of the Madrid-Zaragoza-Alicante and Zaragoza-Pamplona railway lines.

Mirès is also at the origin of the Passage des Princes in Paris which connects the rue de Richelieu and the boulevard des Italiens.
