This share of 500 francs No. 08.754 of the Crédit Marocain, issued in Cette (today Sète, in the Hérault) on 10 January 1914. The Crédit Marocain was a commercial bank created to finance economic activity in Morocco under the French Protectorate (established by the Treaty of Fez in 1912). Cette, a busy Mediterranean port with trade links to the Maghreb, was a natural seat for this type of institution. This certificate stands out for its exceptional orientalist graphic design: a finely engraved vignette depicting a camel caravan against a desert landscape background, accompanied by bilingual French and Arabic text, gives this document a unique aesthetic in French scripophily.
