Società Nazionale Industrie Edilizie
Certificato al Portatore No. 1600, 10 azioni, Società Nazionale Industrie Edilizie (S.N.I.E.), Turin, 1 November 1931. Italian construction/fascism scripophily.
The Società Nazionale Industrie Edilizie (S.N.I.E.) was an Italian construction company active under the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini, which was then launching its great public-works campaigns — draining the Pontine Marshes, building highways, erecting the città nuove to boost the Italian economy and demonstrate the regime's power. This bearer certificate No. 1600 for 10 shares, issued in Turin on 1 November 1931 — a highly symbolic date, since 4 November marked the anniversary of the 1918 Italian victory — bears witness to private investment in the construction sector under the impetus of Mussolini's policies. Turin, industrial capital of Piedmont and birthplace of FIAT, was also a major center of Italian construction and real estate. This document is a fascinating piece of interwar Italian scripophily.
