Company created in 1875 by Paul Decauville, son of a farmer from Courcouronnes (Essonne) specializing in the production of sugar beet and the distillery who, to access his fields, led him to invent a type of low-speed railway spacing (40 to 60 centimeters) which took the name of "Decauville".

Manufacturer of railway and handling equipment, cycles and automobiles. Known throughout the world, Decauville was one of France's industrial jewels from the 1880s until the 1970s. Decauville has now refocused on industrial bodywork.

One of the old historical subsidiaries, EmiDecau, manufacturer of hydraulic presses, still exists.
