A magnificent railway scripophily certificate, this Founder's Share of the Compagnie Française des Voies Ferrées Économiques, a public limited company established by deeds of 23 August 1889, 6 and 7 June 1890, and 31 December 1890, filed with Maître Hauteville, notary in Paris. Share capital of five million francs divided into 10,000 shares of 500 francs. The head office was in Paris. The certificate displays exceptional railway iconography: at the top, a frieze of wagons and steam locomotives (mention "Passengers"), at the bottom a second frieze with an electric tramway ("Electric traction") and a locomotive — perfectly illustrating this company's dual purpose, specializing in local-interest railways and tramways. Neoclassical colonnade design with medallion crests, engraved signature B. Sernique. Bearer Founder's Share no. 0527, signed by two directors, dry seal and fiscal stamp. Sea-green and black printing on watermarked paper. Very fine condition, clean paper, sharp margins, slight central fold mark. A piece highly sought after by enthusiasts of French tramways and secondary railways, particularly decorative thanks to its signed double railway frieze.
