Founded in 1882, the company became a Société en commandité par actions in 1895 and, in 1924, a public limited company publishing under the title "Le Gaulois", in a single sheet, the daily newspapers "Le Gaulois-Paris-Journal" and "Le Clairon" ("The Bugle").

Literary and political daily newspaper, it is taken over by Arthur Meyer. Published until 1929, the company then merged with Le Figaro by François Coty.
