The Warsaw-Vienna Railway (Warschau-Wiener Eisenbahn / Société du Chemin de Fer de Varsovie-Vienne) was one of the oldest railway lines in the Russian Empire (Congress Poland), linking Warsaw to the Austro-Hungarian border and beyond to Vienna. Inaugurated in 1845-1848, it played a strategic role in commercial transit between Central Europe and the Russian Empire.

This certificate is a 4% BOND OF 625 GOLD ROUBLES (equivalent to 2500 francs / 2020 marks / 1195 Dutch florins / £111 sterling), 1890 issue. Number No. 00324 (very low!). Trilingual Russian / French / German text. Bond capital of 71,535,000 gold roubles = 86,110,000 marks = 60,681,120 florins = 11,174,920 sterling. Articles of association approved 7 June 1890 with supplementary issues of 27 May 1900 and 1 June 1872. Burgundy red and black design, geometric ornaments, central seal. Handwritten signatures at the bottom. Small Russian fiscal stamps at the top.

Apparent condition: very good, vivid inks, sturdy paper, legible signatures, minor edge wear.

An excellent piece of railway scripophily, of dual Russian and Polish interest, an appreciable low number.
