The founders are Messrs. Chartier-Lahure, General Baron Lahure, Oscar Lahure, Déruelle and other local people.

The company took the name of Société de Ferfay et de Ames in 1853, then Compagnie de Ferfay et de Ames in 1856. The company was then bought by the Compagnie des mines de Marles.
