In 1855, a concession was granted to the Company of the Mines of Bruay headed by Mr. Lecomte. In 1918, nearly 20,000 people worked at the Bruay mines producing 3 million tons of coal. After the nationalization of 1946, the Groupe de Bruay took over the boundaries of the former Mines de Bruay concessions.
