Created by the architect Henri Blondel, nephew of Charles Garnier (architect of the Paris Opera), the hotel is one of the most luxurious of the time. It is located not far from the Ministry of Finance.

The Grand Dukes of Russia take it as their residence during their visits to France. Under the German occupation of the capital, the hotel will host an exceptional court. In 1944, during the Liberation of Paris, sheets were hung at the windows.

The hotel was renamed Inter-Continental Paris in the 1980s, The Westin Paris in 2005, to which was added the suffix Vendôme in 2010.
