If a horse market existed in Paris from the 15th century, it was moved over the centuries.

A project to bring a new slaughterhouse market closer to Vaugirard was launched at the start of the 20th century.

The new covered and tarred market is located at the corner of rue Brancion and rue des Morillons. The hippophagic butchers' union chamber obtains the concession for 75 years.

The building will later become a theater, the Silvia-Monfort Theater.
