The Compagnie Minière de l'Oubanghi Oriental was a concessionary company operating in the Oubangui-Chari region (present-day Central African Republic), a territory of French Equatorial Africa. This bearer share of one hundred francs, numbered 007.546 and belonging to the old series, illustrates the system of large concessionary companies created at the end of the 19th century to exploit the natural resources of African territories. These companies, often criticized for their methods of exploiting local populations, have left a rich documentary heritage for colonial scripophily. The distinction between 'old series' and 'new series' (see next item) indicates a restructuring of the share capital, probably linked to a capital increase or a revision of the shares' nominal value.
