Eugène Secrétan (1836-1899) made his fortune in the copper market. He donated 60 tons of copper in the 1870th to make the Statue of Liberty.

The biggest moment of Eugène Secrétan came in March 1889. He tried to corner the copper market with his company Société industrielle et commerciale des métaux.

As all other corners it failed. It ended in the copper crash of 1889. Secrétan was ruined. He lost not only his company, but also had to sell his art collection
