A rare piece of Indian scripophily: a registered cash certificate of 10 rupees issued by the Princely State of Hyderabad, one of the most powerful Indian states under British suzerainty, ruled by the legendary Nizam — the richest man in the world in the 1930s. Document dated FASLI era 1353, approximately 1942 AD according to conversions of the solar Hijri calendar used in Hyderabad. Entirely written in Urdu with elegant Persian calligraphy, purple seals and multicolored handwritten signatures. The number D No. 012491 appears at the top. On the back: a table of annual interest due dates and receipt areas. These certificates functioned as registered cash bonds bearing the value of the deposit and providing for annual interest. Anything related to Hyderabad — a state dissolved in 1948 during Operation Polo — is highly sought after by collectors and historians.
