Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, a world-renowned mountain resort at the foot of the Alps' highest summit, was in the 1920s an élite tourist destination frequented by European aristocracy and high bourgeoisie. The Grand Casino de Chamonix formed the social hub of the resort, hosting gambling, balls, concerts and entertainment. The SA du Grand Casino de Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, with a capital of 4,500,000 francs divided into 45,000 shares of 100 francs, was a substantial enterprise for the era, whose statutes had been filed with Maître Ravanel, Notary in Chamonix, and whose registered office was in Paris. This Founder's Bearer Share N°0554 bears the mention "Stamp Duty paid by subscription to the Official Gazette of 24 June 1923," which precisely dates the document. It is adorned with a splendid panoramic vignette depicting the Grand Casino of Chamonix with the Mont-Blanc massif in the background, as well as the arms of Chamonix (red cross on white). Carefully printed, it bears the signatures of two directors. An aesthetically magnificent document, combining Alpine tourism scripophily with a witness to the Belle Époque mountain experience.
