Originally an absinthe factory in 1875 in Paris, the activity was taken over by Fernand Moureaux, heir to the factory. He teamed up with Henri Porte, an industrialist from a family of bankers, with the idea of innovating in the field of wine-based aperitifs. They created a drink from the distillation of gentian roots, a large flower with golden petals, growing in the Jura and Auvergne. Fernand Moureaux received a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889. The Suze factory was located from 1875 to 1974 in the town of Maisons-Alfort.
