Colt's Manufacturing Company
Share Certificate No. D17095, 10 shares, Colt's Manufacturing Company, William W. Phillips, Connecticut, May 1953. Colt gunmaking scripophily, iconic American revolver.
This second Colt's Manufacturing Company certificate (to be distinguished from the cancelled Colt's Patent Fire Arms certificate, item 61) represents 10 shares issued in May 1953 in the name of William W. Phillips. The date of 1953 corresponds to a period of strong military demand: the Korean War had just ended (July 1953) and the American armed forces were undergoing full reorganization, with new orders for individual weapons. Colt's Manufacturing, heir to the Samuel Colt tradition, then supplied the American armed forces with revolvers and semi-automatic rifles. A top-choice piece for collectors of scripophily and the history of American firearms.
