Bingham Central Railway Company — Utah Bond
Bond 100£ 6% Gold Bond Bingham Central Railway Company, Utah USA. Locomotive vignette, decorative American railroad scripophily.
A first-rate American railroad piece: this First Mortgage Six Per Cent Gold Bond of the Bingham Central Railway Company was issued for the operation of the Bingham Canyon (Utah) copper mines, one of the largest open-pit deposits in the world. The certificate, headed "United States of America" and bilingual English/French, features at the top a superb engraved vignette of a steam locomotive pulling a train over a viaduct — pure imagery of the American railroad epic. Mention "First Mortgage Bond Six Per Cent Gold", nominal value £100 sterling. Number 68 [to be verified — low numbers]. Dark emerald-green border with guilloché motifs, large "100" figure watermarked in the background. Original signatures of the president and a director. Fine sheet of attached coupons at the bottom. Apparent condition: very good, well-preserved inks, firm paper, normal archive folds. An ideal piece for a US railroad collection, copper mines, the Far West, or American mining scripophily. Its bilingual nature (marketed in France at the time) makes it a rarity for French collectors.
