Société Construction Machines Kolomna
Russian share, Kolomna Machine-Building Works Company 1907, magnificent locomotive vignette. Railway scripophily piece.
The Kolomna Machine-Building Works Company (Коломенский машиностроительный завод), founded in 1863 on the banks of the Moskva River, was one of the largest builders of locomotives, river vessels and heavy machinery in the Russian Empire. The factory produced Russia's first steam locomotive in 1869 and remained an industrial flagship until the Soviet era (when it took the name Kolomenski Zavod).
This superb bearer share of 125 ROUBLES, issued in 1907, stands out with its magnificent central vignette depicting a steam locomotive, direct testimony to the company's flagship activity. Bilingual Russian/French text, number No. 28209. Share capital of 10,000,000 roubles divided into 80,000 shares, plus 3,500,000 roubles in bonds. Articles of association sanctioned by H.M. the Emperor on 5 November 1871. Signatures of the Chairman, the Directors, the Managing Director, the Cashier and the Accountant. Red fiscal stamps and embossed dry stamps.
Apparent condition: very good overall, clean paper, well-contrasted illustration, a few small purple stamps at the top (likely re-issue/control marks).
A choice piece for collectors of Russian railway scripophily, combining 19th-century aesthetics with major historical interest.
