Sté de la Maison des Jeunes (revue Les Petits Bonshommes)
Bond of 100F - Paris 1923
Issue: 2000.
At the turn of the century two new titles enrich the already flourishing juvenile press: Jean-Pierre (1901-1904) and Les Petits Bonshommes (1911-1914), two innovating papers with their socialist orientation, and their interest for children of working classes. The first is created by young middle class people, yet imbued by Dreyfusard spirit in the approach of Charles Péguy. The second was born in the lap of Pierre Monatte and revolutionary trade unions. A same aim joins them together: struggle weapons, they are destined to fight against the almighty power of catholic press and against the success of popular papers; simultaneously they bring a favourable account of ''new education''. In this trend the two papers are not isolated initiatives, but take place in a coherent project: Jean-Pierre undertakes close to childhood the action led by the Cahiers de la Quinzaine besides the adults for an educative socialism, dear to Péguy; Les Petits Bonshommes complete the work already undertaken by the syndicalists with La Vie ouvrière and La Bataille syndicaliste. In Jean-Pierre education is sufficient to change society, and children, adults of to-morrow, are the depository of the coming change. No reference to an action of social forces. Nothing such in Les Petits Bonshommes, where the abundance of militant articles should integrate children in an active trade-unionism
