Bond N°024,498, LT.22/M.408/Frs.500/£20/Flor.240, Ottoman 4% Loan 1905 Tedjhisat-Azkérié, Deutsche Bank Issue, Frs.60,000,000 nominal. Constantinople 17 April 1905. Trilingual Ger/Fr/En. Zia Minister Finance. Adam Bloch.
The "Tedjhisat-Azkérié" (literally "Military Equipment") Loan of the Imperial Ottoman Government of 1905 at 4% is a war loan intended to finance the armament and equipment of the Ottoman army, issued by Deutsche Bank — the German financial institution that was at the time the Ottoman Empire's principal banking partner, in the context of the German-Ottoman alliance. The nominal capital is Frs.60,000,000 (or LT.2,940,000 / M.28,000,000 / £Stg.2,400,000 / Dutch Flor.28,000,000), divided into bonds of LT.22 = M.408 = Frs.500 = £Stg.20 = Dutch Flor.240. This quintuple parity (Turkish lira, mark, franc, sterling, Dutch florin) reflects the international nature of this loan, simultaneously placed in Turkey, Germany, France, England and the Netherlands. Bond N°024,498 is dated Constantinople, 17 April 1905 (signed "a.s. 17 Nisan 1321" in the Ottoman solar-Hijri calendar). It is signed by Zia, Minister of Finance of the Imperial Ottoman Government, and Adam Bloch, President of the Ottoman Public Debt Council. The document is trilingual in German (left), French (centre) and English (right). The Ottoman Imperial Tughra (the Sultan's monogram) appears at the top. Revenue stamp "1% Plein tarif Paris 25/11/1907" attests to French circulation. An emblematic document of the German-Ottoman alliance and the financial geopolitics of the First World War.
