Admiral began as a maker of radios, starting in Chicago as Continental radio & Television Corp. in 1940.

After World War II, the company expand into electric ranges, refrigerators and freezers, and room air conditioners in addition to radios, phonographs and television sets.

In 1974 Admiral was merged into Rockwell International.
