A document of great evocative power for enthusiasts of maritime scripophily: a 100-franc bearer share of the public limited company La Morue Française, capital 11,000,000 francs divided into 110,000 shares, head office in Paris. Articles of association filed with Maître Dufour, notary in Paris, by deeds of 5 March 1925. The company operated cod fishing in the waters of Newfoundland and Iceland — one of the great French maritime industrial activities of the interwar period, mobilizing shipowners from Saint-Malo, Fécamp, Bordeaux and La Rochelle. The midnight-blue design features two allegorical medallions showing cod-fishing vessels at sea, framed by floral and marine motifs. Mention "Série A", No. 000925, dated 15 March 1927 in Paris. Original signatures of the Chairman of the Board (Houduce?) and a Director. Red "La Morue Française" seal engraved at the bottom. Apparent condition: good, aged paper with some edge losses, folds and handling marks, but excellent legibility. A very fine piece for a themed collection on "fishing", "merchant marine", "Newfoundland" or "cod-fishing shipowners".
