The Pathé company was founded by Charles and Emile Pathé in 1896. Émile took charge of the company's phonographic operations and Charles Pathé devoted himself to cinema.

Pathé Consortium, a subsidiary of Pathé, was created in 1921 and aims to distribute films for the cinema. It will then take the name of AMLF (Agence Méditerranéenne de Location de Films) from 1972 to 1998, then Pathé Distribution in 1999.
