The father of the Renard Train is Charles Renard (1847-1905), creator of the Modern Aerostation, designer and pilot of the First Airship in History. Renard's genius led him to imagine a road train, all of whose cars had a driving axle. Although initially developed for the military, Colonel Renard was given permission to make a civilian version.
Presented at the December 1903 auto show, the Renard train made numerous demonstration tours in France, including that from Rouen to Dieppe.
Finally four companies were created in France, including the Compagnie des Trains Renard du Cher.
