Rödel is a manufacturer of canned foods, hence the illustrations of fruits, fish, and boats. Rödel presents itself as a supplier to the Royal Navy and His Majesty the Emperor of Brazil, a sign of good reputation in this luxury canning market, particularly of sardines in oil.

Rödel, a public limited company founded in 1824 in Bordeaux, Jardin Public, the factory having been built in 1822 by the government. Charles-Désiré Rödel is its first director.
