A very rare document from the great adventure of digging the Corinth Canal in Greece: a provisional negotiable bearer certificate for a bond paid up to 90 francs out of a nominal 500, issued by the Société Internationale du Canal Maritime de Corinthe. A public limited company with a capital of 30,000,000 francs divided into 60,000 shares of 500 francs. Issue of 60,000 bonds of 500 francs at 6%.

Dated 1 April 1888 in Paris, number 430. The Corinth Canal, dug between 1882 and 1893 under the direction of French and Hungarian engineers, links the Gulf of Corinth to the Aegean Sea and is one of the great maritime engineering projects of the 19th century alongside Suez and Panama. This company, in financial difficulty on several occasions, underwent several issues and conversions.

The certificate, printed in black on cream paper, features a sober geometric border, a vignette of the Greek coat of arms, and retains on the right three payment stubs (3rd, 4th and 5th installments) with their stamps. "PARIS" stamp dated in blue ink. Original signatures. A document of strong historical interest for collectors of canals, engineering works, or modern Greece.
