Quilmes Brewery is today the largest brewery in Argentina and one of the most famous beer brands in South America. Founded in 1888 in Quilmes, in the province of Buenos Aires, by German immigrants, it rapidly became the national Argentine beer. In the early 20th century, the Brasserie Argentine Quilmes was incorporated as a joint-stock company with its registered office in Paris, reflecting the importance of French capital in Argentine industrial development. The share capital is 60,000,000 Francs, divided into 480,000 shares of 125 Francs, with articles deposited with Notary Baudrier in Paris. This Share N°061,999 is a scripophily document of extraordinary beauty: printed by Maison Richard of Paris, it features two allegorical female figures holding torches flanking a hop branch and a central medallion, while a chubby child hoists a tankard in front of a barrel engraved "Brasserie Quilmes Argentine". The Art Nouveau composition reflects the care given to financial presentation of the era. An iconic document combining Argentina's great brewing history with the excellence of French interwar printing.
