The Compagnie des Mines d'Or de la Guyane Française was one of the many mining companies created in the late 19th century to exploit the gold resources of French Guiana, an overseas territory known for its alluvial gold deposits in the Amazonian rainforest rivers. Founded in 1875 by deeds deposited with Notary Legay in Paris and resolutions of General Meetings on 20 October and 3 November 1875, the company has a share capital of 1,500,000 Francs, divided into 3,000 shares of 500 Francs. This share N°2,938 was issued on 25 April 1877 and is marked "Entièrement Libérée" (Fully Paid), meaning the capital was fully paid up. Signed by two directors (E. Cousin and Lambert). The French Guiana gold rush mobilised significant Parisian capital during the Belle Époque, but most mining companies yielded uncertain results due to the difficulties of operating in tropical forest conditions. The revenue stamp "Action 2/3e en sus" attests to its Seine department issuance. An old document (1877) in very good condition.
