Company founded in 1920 by Octave Homberg, general secretary and administrator of the Banque de l'Indochine, administrator of the Compagnie du Chemin de Fer Franco-Ethiopien, general manager of the Banque de Union Parisienne. He then created Crédit Foncier de l'Indochine in 1923.
Banque Lazard supported him in the creation of the SFFC.
The company is centered on colonial electricity companies (it will introduce the Société Algérienne d'Eclairage et de Force and the Indochinese Electricity on the Paris Stock Exchange). The SFFC also controls the Société Indochinoise des Cultures Tropicales and the Société des Caoutchoucs de l'Indochine.
In 1949, then chaired by Edmond Giscard d'Estaing for about fifteen years, the company took the name of Société Financière pour la France et les pays d'Outre-Mer (SOFFO).
