Les Piles Wonder
Share of 100 NF - Saint-Ouen
Bearer share of 100 new francs issued in Saint-Ouen.
Head office at 77 rue des Rosiers.
The company was founded in 1914 by Estelle Courtecuisse, an antiques dealer in Paris. It manufactures saline batteries, and notably supplies the French and English armies during the First World War.
In 1984, the family company in great difficulty was bought by the french businessman Bernard Tapie who undertook a restructuring. He closed factories and laid off 600 employees. Advertising man Jacques Suégéla launches a campaign featuring Bernard Tapie with a battery on his back and the slogan "I walk like Wonder". But in 1986, the Saint-Ouen factory was closed.
In 1988, Bernard Tapie sold Saft-Mazda-Wonder to the American Ralston Energy Systems, which was seeking to establish its Energizer brand in France. In 1994, activity ceased in the last Wonder factory in Louviers.
