Originally, the company also owned the Schwerin tram, which was left to the city of Schwerin in 1885 because it was unprofitable. The original concession in Rostock ran until 1944 or 1954. After the fall of the Wall in 1990, when Rostock was outsourced from the VE Verkehrskombinat “Ostseetrans”, Rostock was originally resurrected under the old name with more than 50 trams and 100 buses today.

Gründung 1881 als Mecklenburgische Straßen-Eisenbahn-AG. 10 km Straßenbahnen in Rostock mit 3 Linien, eröffnet 1881 als Pferdebahn, seit 1904 elektrischer Betrieb. Ursprünglich besaß die Gesellschaft auch die Schweriner Straßenbahn, welche 1885 wegen Unrentabilität der Stadt Schwerin überlassen wurde. Die ursprüngliche Konzession in Rostock lief bis 1944 bzw. 1954. Nach der Wende 1990 durch Ausgliederung aus dem VE Verkehrskombinat “Ostseetrans” Rostock original unter dem alten Namen wiederauferstanden mit heute mehr als 50 Straßenbahnzügen und 100 Omnibussen.
